A special investigation team has been formed to investigate the death of independent Lok Sabha MP Mohan Delkar, Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Desmukh said at today’s assembly. Delkar, a father of two, was found dead in a hotel on Mumbai ‘s Marine Drive last month. Mumbai police said the post-mortem investigation confirmed death by hanging and a suicide note was found in the hotel room.

The Maharashtra government move came after multiple requests for a proper investigation into the case.

Congress, part of the Shiv Sena-led government in the state, has demanded a judicial investigation. The 58-year-old was a seven-time MP for the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Union Territory and led the party’s unit there before resigning in 2019 and competing as an Independent.

According to Congress spokesman Pawan Khera, Mr. Delkar previously wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Interior Minister Amit Shah and other high-ranking leaders, noting the “harassment” he was facing at the hands of Administrator Praful Khoda Patel and other Dadra and Nagra officials. Haveli.

The party has questioned why the Center failed to act when it repeatedly raised the issue of “harassment”.

The 15-page suicide note found in Mohan Delkar’s hotel room in Gujarati had named some people, but police have not released details.

Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that he will request Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Interior Minister Amit Shah to instruct the Dadra and Nagar Haveli authorities to cooperate with the Mumbai police in the research.
