Mumbai / Patna:
Maharashtra BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, charged with managing his party’s campaign in Bihar, faces a tough balancing act when it comes to the Sushant Singh Rajput case that caused a major dispute between the two states.
Today, Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh tried to prove it with a question about former Bihar police chief Gupteshwar Pandey, who will run in this month’s Bihar elections as a candidate for the BJP ally Janata Dal United party. Nitish Kumar.
“Gupteshwar Pandey is going to fight the elections in Bihar. I want to ask Devendra Fadnavis if he will campaign for Pandey, a man who insulted Maharashtra,” Deshmukh said at a press conference today, issuing a challenge to the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Gupteshwar Pandey, as Bihar’s chief policeman, had targeted the Maharashtra government and Mumbai police for the investigation of Sushant Singh Rajput after the actor’s family filed an FIR (First Information Report) in Patna accusing his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty for a role in her suicide.
When questions arose about how the actor died, Pandey also recommended that the CBI take up the case. After the Supreme Court endorsed the CBI investigation and asked the Mumbai police to hand over all the data and evidence in the case, Pandey claimed the claim.
Last month, Pandey resigned from the police and decided to join politics. He said he was “finally free” from the rules that limited him as a policeman and that he would like to immerse himself in public service.
Recently, an AIIMS panel asked to review Sushant Singh’s viscera sample and other forensic evidence told the CBI in its findings that it was a suicide, not a murder.
Mumbai police, who had been investigating Sushant Singh’s death on June 14 as a suicide, said it was a vindication of their professional investigation.
Mumbai Police Chief Paramvir Singh was asked to comment on Pandey’s decision. “Since Bihar DGP is my superior, I cannot comment on his conduct,” he told NDTV.
The Sushant Singh Rajput case has been included in the Bihar campaign. The 34-year-old actor was from Bihar, and many cartels from the ruling JDU-BJP coalition claim credit for taking the case to a CBI investigation and bringing justice to a young son of the state.
“We do not want to make the death of Sushant Singh Rajput an electoral issue. This is related to the emotion of the common man. We will ensure that he receives justice and we will not stop until justice is done,” Devendra Fadnavis had said last month.
Bihar will vote on October 28, November 3 and 7 and the results will be announced on November 10.
