MUMBAI: A day after the defiant Maharashtra CM, Uddhav Thackeray’s claim that the Centre had sent an insufficient number of trains to transport migrants, despite the fact that the state of the demand of 80, the minister of railways Piyush Goyal intensified their criticism of the state government, saying that he had “a completely broken administration”.
Shortly after Thackeray on Sunday accused the Centre of providing only 40 trains, Goyal had made a series of tweets saying that the railroad was going to send to 125 trains on Monday if Maharashtra had sent a list of the migrants to be transported. At 2.11 in the morning of Monday, Goyal tweeted, “Where is the list of the 125 trains of Maharashtra? As of 2 am, received the list of only 46 of the trains, of which 5 are to the West of Bengal and Orissa, which can not operate due to the cyclone Amphan. We are notifying only 41 trains to the day today despite being ready for 125!!!”
On Monday night, Goyal, said, “From 7:15 (Sunday), after each time, I kept asking the status of the list of details, which lasted until 12:30. At 12:30, will be given a list of 46 trains… The reality is Maharashtra government has no list, no details of the migrants, there is no clarity on who wants to go where. It is a completely broken administration.”
Goyal said 65 trains had been placed in the stations, in Maharashtra, in the last few days, but that it “has had to be cancelled due to the government of Maharashtra does not even bring passengers to the stations.” I hope that the opposition “has worked to serve the nation instead of (play) petty politics,” Goyal, praised the UP and Bihar CMs to “welcome their brothers and sisters from the state and not the creation of obstacles”. He added, “That is what true leadership is.”
BJP member Narayan Rane on Monday met the governor of B S Koshyari and asked him to recommend President’s rule in Maharashtra, while NCP minister Jitendra Awhad twitter that Goyal had released more tweets of the trains.
Answer to Goyal’s criticism, the Sena MP Sanjay Raut said, “Several trains had left for Pune, Nagpur, but the lists were not needed or required then. It is surprising and sad that a minister representing Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha is asking for the list. It seems that they are asking for a list of the migrants only in Maharashtra. He (Goyal) should not stretch things too much. The Centre should avoid to consider Maharashtra as a state where the opposition is in the office and see it as a normal state, which would help to resolve the problems.”
Raut had said on Sunday that Maharashtra was going to send a list to the Center but railroads needed to make sure that the trains do not go to Odisha if they were tied UP, a reference to the length of the routes taken by many of the Shramik Special because of what the rail is called congestion.
