Maharashtra Governor ‘concerned’ about Arnab Goswami’s health and safety

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari spoke with the state’s Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh and conveyed his concern for the safety and health of the arrested Republic Television Director Arnab Goswami, according to Raj Bhawan. He also asked the Interior Minister to let Goswami’s family meet him.

Arnab Goswami, who was arrested by Mumbai police on November 4 in connection with a 2018 suicide instigation case, said he was being subjected to torture and was not allowed to speak to his lawyers. He was speaking to Republic TV reporters from a van that transported him from a prison quarantine center to Navi Mumbai Taloja Jail on Sunday.

“I had asked them to please let me speak (to my lawyers). But they denied it. I tell everyone that my life is at stake. My police custody was denied. They tried to change me only at night. This morning they dragged me away. Everyone is seeing what is happening to me. They want to delay the process and keep me in jail. Please give me bail, I am appealing to the Supreme Court, ”Arnab Goswami said with folded hands in the video.

The decision to transfer the 47-year-old journalist to Alibag jail before his quarantine period at the prison’s quarantine center ended was made after he was allegedly found using someone’s cell phone when his phone was seized when he was arrested last week.

The Bombay High Court will render its order on Goswami’s request for provisional bail on Monday at 3 p.m., according to the notice issued Saturday night on the high court’s website.
