Maharashtra government to postpone MPSC exam scheduled for October 11

Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Friday that the state government has decided to postpone the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exam scheduled for October 11. The new date for the MPSC exam will be announced soon, Thackeray added.

The decision to reschedule the MPSC exam was made after a second round of meetings with various Maratha organizations following a previous one on Thursday, attended by Thackeray, Senior Vice Minister Ajit Pawar and other key state cabinet ministers for a dialogue with three delegations led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje, BJP legislator Vinayak Mete and Maratha Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti’s Suresh Patil.

Maratha teams believe that in the absence of the Maratha reservation, community youth may lose job opportunities in the government sector if exams are not postponed until the quota issue is resolved.

The Supreme Court had suspended the reservation to Marathas in jobs and education for 2020-21 on September 9. The community received reservations of 12% and 13% in employment and admissions, respectively, in 2018, under the Act on Socially and Educationally Retarded Classes (SEBC). Many students had also previously requested that the MPSC test be postponed. More than 250,000 students have applied for the exam.
