MUMBAI: Leader of Maharashtra of the Opposition (LoP) Devendra Fadnavis on Monday he condemned the state government for expressing interest in supporting the continuous agitation of farmers and noted the indifference of the state government to resolve the issue of Maratha protesters being flogged in the state.
Maratha protesters are being beaten in their homes and the state government is speaking out about the rights of protesters in Delhi, who are campaigning against the new agricultural laws, he said.
“The prime minister should speak about Maharashtra first rather than comment on the protest that is taking place in Delhi. The Maratha protesters are being beaten in their homes and the government is assuming the rights of the protesters in Delhi,” he said Fadnavis.
Fadnavis further said that the state government is also trying to flee from discussions in the legislature.
“First the government escaped from the farmers’ problem and then from the Maratha problem,” he added.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra BJP lawmakers held a protest in front of the State Assembly today, on various issues, including Maratha Reserve, inflated energy bills and compensation to farmers after recent floods and heavy rains.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court published for January 25, 2021 the hearing of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of a Maharashtra law that grants reservations to the Maratha community on education and jobs.
