Maharashtra Forms Task Force to Ensure Timely Distribution of COVID-19 Vaccine


New Delhi: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday he informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the state has formed a task force to ensure the timely distribution of coronavirus vaccine and running the vaccination program.

Thackeray is currently attending the Prime Minister’s meeting with top ministers from various states on the coronavirus situation.

He said the state government is in contact with Adar Poonawalla, executive director of the Serum Institute of India (SII), which is a partner in the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for coronavirus.

“Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he is in constant contact with Adar Poonawalla of the Serum Institute and that the state has formed a task force to ensure the timely distribution of the vaccine and the execution of the vaccination program,” according to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office. With an efficacy of around 90 percent, positive results from an interim analysis of AZD1222 clinical trials in the UK and Brazil, the vaccine has been shown to be highly effective in preventing
COVID-19-19 said AstraZeneca on Monday.

A dosing regimen shows 90 percent vaccine efficacy when AZD1222 was administered as a half dose, followed by a full dose at least one month apart. The second dosing regimen shows an efficacy of 62% when two full doses are administered at least one month apart. The combined analysis has an average efficacy of 70 percent, AstraZeneca said in a statement.

In addition to Thackeray, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, CM Vijay Rupani of Gujarat, CM Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan, CM Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh, CM Manohar Lal Khattar of Haryana, CM Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala and CM Arvind Kejriwal from Delhi are present at the meeting. which is carried out by videoconference.
