The Maharashtra government on Thursday extended the ongoing lockdown for another month as cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) continue to rise in the state. It will now remain in effect until November 30, authorities said.
While the national count is seeing a drop in daily cases, Maharashtra remains the most affected state by Covid-19 in the country with 130,286 active cases. As of Wednesday morning, the death toll in the state was 14,86,926.

Earlier this month, the state allowed hotels, food courts, restaurants and bars to restart operations at a capacity not to exceed 50%. However, schools, universities and other educational and training institutions are closed.
Since June 15, the state and rail authorities have resumed a limited number of special suburban trains for people employed in emergency services.
Currently, the railway authorities operate 1,410 special services on Mumbai suburban network, including 10 special trains for women.
The state government wrote to the Western Railway and Central Railway on Tuesday seeking suggestions on resuming local train services for the general public. In the letter, the government proposed opening in a staggered manner in the face of the pandemic.
