Maharashtra extends closure restrictions until December 31, essential services allowed

“The instructions and guidelines issued on September 30 and October 14 to put into operation ‘Mission Begin Again’ to ease the restrictions and the opening in phases will remain in effect until December 31 for the containment of COVID-19,” he said the order. In the wake of the unlocking guidelines issued by the Center, the state had eased several lockdown restrictions in recent months.

The state government said revised guidelines have been issued from time to time allowing the resumption of various activities as part of the “Mission Begin Again.”

Earlier this week, the government allowed places of worship to reopen. Schools for students in grades 9-12 have also reopened in some parts of the state this week. Hotels and bars have already been allowed to reopen.

On Thursday, Maharashtra’s COVID-19 case count surpassed 18 lakh to reach 18.02,365 when 6,406 new infections came to light. The state also reported 65 deaths, bringing the death toll from the pandemic to 46,813.

The city of Mumbai reported 1,147 new coronavirus cases during the day, bringing its overall case count to 2.79,744, while its death toll rose to 10,740 with 15 new deaths.

The cumulative case count for the Nashik division was 2.42,222 and the death toll at 4,478. The Kolhapur division has reported 1,12,959 cases and 3,905 deaths so far, while the Aurangabad division’s case count was 67,263 and the death count at 1,684.
