Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray launched a statewide campaign, ‘My Family, My Responsibility’, on Sunday to tackle the coronavirus pandemic amid further relaxation of lockdown restrictions.
Thackeray said the crisis is likely to worsen in the coming days as the state remains the worst hit due to the viral illness with more than one million Covid-19 cases.
The ‘My family, my responsibility’ campaign will aim to achieve effective health education for the control of the Covid-19 outbreak, according to the commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), IS Chahal.
The campaign that begins on September 15 will be carried out in two phases.
Here is everything you need to know about it:
* Authorities will survey 22.5 million families twice a month during the survey.
* Public representatives and NGO volunteers will be tied up for the campaign and volunteers will go door-to-door to check citizens for fever, low oxygen levels, and other symptoms of Covid-19.
* A team consisting of a healthcare worker and two others will survey and inspect each person and also suggest available services for the coronavirus disease. The state will make a doctor available to five teams. A swab test will be recommended to those with symptoms of Covid-19.
* People with conditions such as diabetes, heart and kidney disease, as well as obesity, will be referred for treatment.
* “To effectively reduce the spread of disease, it is imperative that all members of a family take the necessary care and are vigilant to avoid inadvertent mistakes,” said IS Chahal.
* In accordance with additional rules established by the BMC, housing societies must ensure that temperature control, oxygen testing, and hand washing facilities are available to helpers, drivers, garbage collectors, and cleaners. They should also show the emergency contact numbers of the municipal health centers and hospitals within the facilities of their society.
* Store owners have been asked to make sure they make arrangements to control body temperature, maintain disinfectant, and allow a limited number of customers at a time. They have also been told to secure a staff minimum and adopt online transaction methods.
* The work hours of employees in private offices will be staggered and they will be called to work on alternate days and should work from home as much as possible. Offices have been asked to adopt digital methods to avoid human contact. Video conferencing systems should be used for meetings and the health of all employees should be prioritized, BMC said.
* People traveling by public and private transport have been advised to wear a mask and a face shield. The campaign also states that people should avoid traveling in crowded vehicles, should not touch vehicle doors and handles, and should use private vehicles to get around as much as possible.
