Maharashtra Closure News: Maharashtra Extends Closure Restrictions Until Jan 31 | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: The government of Maharashtra on Wednesday extended confinement restrictions in the state until January 31. State Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh said hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants will remain open until 11 p.m. and no more than five people will be allowed to gather in public places for New Year’s Eve celebrations before 11 p.m.
Deshmukh, speaking to the media, said that the Covid-19 threat still persists and that people should avoid crowds as we usher in the new year. “All hotels, restaurants, pubs and bars will be able to stay open only until 11pm. People must follow the Covid guidelines issued by the state,” he said. “Although it is forbidden to gather more than five people, there are no restrictions on going out to buy medicine or go to dinner at a friend’s house after 11 pm.”
The order issued by the chief secretary of state on Wednesday states that activities that have been allowed as part of the ‘Mission Start Over’ will remain in effect. However, strict restrictions will be maintained in the containment zones.
In view of the new strain of coronavirus, Maharashtra again imposed a nightly curfew for seven hours from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., until January 5.
The state has eased lockdown restrictions such as reopening places of worship, gymnasiums, theaters, and limited-capacity sports activities. Schools, in some parts of the state, have started offline classes for classes IX through XII. -Sujit Mahamulkar
