An assistant deputy inspector posted at the VB Nagar police station in Mumbai succumbed to Covid-19 on Friday. The test results that came after his death were positive. It is the fourth police personnel that succumbs to the virus in the city.

For the next two days, he was under treatment but around 2 am on Friday, he passed away. “Since the results of their test were not ready by then, family members were not allowed to carry out the final rites,” the officer added. Around 7.45 p.m. Friday, hospital authorities obtained the results of his tests, which confirmed that he was infected with Covid-19. Her family members have been quarantined.

In Mumbai, the civic body has urged people to stay in their homes in isolation if they test positive but have no symptoms, comorbidities, or may be young. Civic officials said that to avoid deaths, the focus will be kept first on treating the elderly and people with comorbidities. Those with mild or mild symptoms have been asked by the BMC to first contact the 1916 Helpline and wait for a bed assignment. The Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) 108 ambulance was instructed not to transport patients to various hospitals until BMC assigns a bed to the patient. “This has been done to prevent patients from visiting various hospitals without knowing where beds are available,” said a MEMS official.

Police Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Singhe (Zone VIII) said: “Our police officers were handling the crowd in Baharampada in Bandra (east), that is when we believe one of our officers became infected. However, when one of them started showing symptoms We sent him for the Covid-19 test, and since his report came back positive, all of his close contacts were tested and it was clear on Saturday that even they were infected. ”
