The Maharashtra government has set the rates for N95 and triple double-layer masks, thus becoming the first state to cap the prices of face masks in the country. “To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the state has been asking citizens to wear masks and is also penalizing those who do not wear them. Prices determined will apply to all manufacturing companies, distributors and retailers until the State’s Epidemic Disease Act is enforced. They have also been ordered to put up a board specifying the minimum prices for the skins, Tope added.

Meanwhile, the state recorded fewer than 10,000 new Covid-19 cases for the second day in a row on Tuesday with 8,151 infections, bringing the state’s tally to 1,609,516. The number of active cases in the state amounted to 174,265.
The Health Minister had recently said that the Covid curve was stabilizing in the state. However, officials are wary of a possible resurgence due to increased people-to-people contact during the upcoming Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali festivals. If people don’t follow basic precautions, the situation could be reversed, officials said.
