Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Friday that the coronavirus-induced blockade restrictions will be lifted in the state in a zonal manner and the rules will be relaxed with caution. In a live webcast, he said the blocking rules won’t be hastily relaxed.

“We will walk cautiously. No one is interested in lifting the closure in the red zones (COVID-19) such as Mumbai, the Pune region, Nagpur and Aurangabad, where the number of positive cases is increasing,” he said. Thackeray said that in the orange areas, although there are no new positive cases, there are some active cases, while in the green areas there are no cases.

“Even in green areas, we cannot take risks. Relaxations will be implemented step by step and cautiously,” he said. Admitting that people faced difficulties due to the blockade, he said: “But the true wealth of any country is the good health of its people. If people are safe, then all is well.”

The prime minister said there is fear of COVID-19 in people’s minds, which he called “Covid syndrome”. “We have to get out of that. We must know that the disease is curable if it is detected early,” he said.

Thackeray said the blockade has acted as a “speed switch” in the virus chain, adding that the number of positive cases in the state increased due to aggressive testing. He also greeted people on the 60th day of the founding of the state.
