Citing a study by researchers at the University of Michigan, Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh alleged on Tuesday that BJP leaders were behind discrediting the Mumbai police investigation into the Sushant Singh Rajput case.

Deshmukh also said that the police have registered an FIR on it and will follow the accounts of those who made the accusations.

In a study titled Anatomy of a rumor: social media and the suicide of Sushant Singh RajputUniversity of Michigan investigators have claimed that the Mumbai Police were “targeted by various stakeholders, but particularly by BJP politicians.”

“The data shows an important role that politicians, especially the BJP, played in proposing an alternative of ‘murder’ to the ‘suicide’ narrative. There was a real opportunity to address mental health and depression early in the news cycle, but the stories quickly turned into allusive concoctions, ”the research study said.

He also claimed that the BJP leaders were much more aggressive than the INC when discussing murder, rather than suicide.

“We found that although both parties have roughly the same number of known politicians speaking on the issue (3.03 INC politicians vs. 3,478 BJP politicians), we found the BJP to be almost twice as voluminous in their tweets: 61,196 tweets. compared to INC. 32,406, ”the study said.

Deshmukh also cited the AIIMS report that ruled out murder in the actor’s death and called it a “case of hanging and death by suicide.”

“Maharashtra was fighting COVID-19. At that time, a conspiracy was hatched to defame Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Maharashtra, ”Deshmukh told the PTI news agency.

“… Some parties tried to smear Maharashtra, the Mumbai police. They should apologize to Maharashtra or else the people of Maharashtra will not forgive them, ”said the minister.

He also asked Devendra Fadnavis, who is the BJP’s head of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, if he will campaign for former Bihar police chief and JD (U) leader Gupteshwar Pandey, who had “defamed” Maharashtra and Mumbai police in connection with the case.

Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found hanging in his apartment in the suburbs of Bandra on June 14.
