Gwalior:

A police officer who had disappeared 15 years ago was accidentally found by two of his colleagues on the Gwalior trail.

Suffering from a mental disorder, he was found, earlier this week, in a thoroughly disheveled state, shivering with cold.

Police Deputy Superintendents Ratnesh Singh Tomar and Vijay Singh Bahadur were driving by a wedding hall in the city on Tuesday night when they spotted a man who looked like a beggar.

He was looking for food scraps while shaking a lot.

Moved by the sight, the two officers got out and one of them offered him his warm jacket.

They were surprised when the man called them by their first name, Tomar told reporters on Saturday.

They realized that he was nothing more than his former colleague Manish Mishra, who had disappeared in 2005 while he was stationed as an inspector in Datia.

“During all these years, no one knew his whereabouts,” said Tomar, now DSP of the Gwalior criminal branch.

Tomar and Bahadur took him to a shelter run by an NGO, where he will remain for some time until further arrangements are made.

“Mishra was a good athlete and sharp marksman who joined the police force together with us in 1999. He began to suffer from mental problems after a few years. His family treated him, but one day he disappeared,” Tomar said.

“We, his friends, will try to get the best treatment available for him so that he can return to his normal self,” the DSP added.
