THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Direction of execution detectives on Wednesday took the IAS officer M Sivasankar in custody, after the Kerala High Court denied an advance bond to the officer, in connection with the gold smuggling case Investigation.
The currently suspended officer was detained by the Vanchiyoor Ayurvedic Hospital agency in the capital, where he was being treated for back pain. The higher court had previously asked the agency not to arrest Sivasankar until October 28. On Wednesday, the court, after taking the case, rejected the officer’s request for advance bond.
Meanwhile, it emerged that the Execution Directorate officials were camping in the capital and ready to make a quick move as instructed by the court. Minutes after the court received the information of the denial of advance bail, the Emergency Department officials served the summons to the officer and took him with them. It is known that he will be taken to Kochi for detailed questioning.
Earlier, when Sivasankar received a subpoena from customs for questioning regarding an illegal money transfer, he had complained of discomfort and was then initially admitted to a private hospital and later transferred to medical school. The medical board that had been formed had concluded that Sivasankar had no major health problems, except for back pain. After the high court granted him bail in the customs case, he was released from the hospital and admitted to the Ayurveda hospital for treatment for back pain.
