‘Love jihad’, a term coined by BJP to disturb community harmony: Gehlot | India News

JAIPUR: Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot Friday said “love jihad” is a term fabricated by the BJP to divide the nation and disrupt its communal harmony.
Said marriage is a matter of personal freedom and bringing a law to stop it is completely unconstitutional, he said.
It will not stand up to the scrutiny of any court of law, he added.

“Jihad has no place in love. They are creating an environment in the nation in which consenting adults would be at the mercy of state power. Marriage is a personal decision and they are holding back on it, which is like taking away personal freedom. “Gehlot tweeted.
He said it seems like a ploy to disrupt community harmony, fuel social conflict and disregard constitutional provisions, such as the state does not discriminate against citizens for any reason.
Gehlot’s comments followed announcements from BJP-led governments in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Madhya pradesh who are considering enacting a law against the “jihad of love,” referring to accusations that women are converting to Islam in the name of love and marriage.
