A passenger who disappeared from Delhi airport after testing positive for coronavirus Upon her return from the UK on 21 December she was found in Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh early Thursday morning. Health officials received the woman and her son at the Rajahmundry train station and transferred her to the district hospital.
“The woman is asymptomatic and is doing well in the district hospital. Her son, who traveled with her to Rajahmundry, will be tested for the virus today. We received them when they arrived here and transferred them to the special ward of the Rajahmundry District Hospital, ”Dr. T Ramesh Kishore, East Godavari District Health Services Coordinator, told indianexpress.com.
On why she traveled to Rajahmundry when advised to self-quarantine, Dr. Kishore added: “We received her early this morning, shortly after midnight. We still have to ask her why she escaped from quarantine. ”The duo were tracked down after information about their train journey was shared with the Delhi district authorities. She had tested positive for COVID-19 at the Delhi airport and her samples were sent to sequence the genome to identify if it was infected with the new virus strain.
Delhi to Rajahmundry is a journey of at least 27 hours by train. “She is in the isolation room. I’m not sure why he left Delhi. We will verify those issues, ”Rajahmundry Urban SP Shemushi Bajpai said when contacted by phone.
The woman was among five Covid-positive flyers from the UK that couldn’t be traced after landing at Delhi airport on Tuesday. Three of them were tracked down Tuesday night and admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital in the capital, while one managed to reach Ludhiana and was returned on Wednesday.
According to new SOPs issued by the Center on Tuesday, Covid-positive passengers from the UK must be transferred to a separate isolation unit and their samples must be sent for genome sequencing.
