Lord Meghnad Desai resigns from UK Labor Party citing racism

According to Reuters, Corbyn was suspended from the party in October after it was discovered that he had downplayed a report by the country’s human rights watchdog on serious flaws by his leadership in handling persistent complaints of anti-Semitism.

Sir Keir Starmer, who had succeeded Corbyn, took the move, but less than a month after his suspension, Corbyn was reinstated to the party on November 17.

Denying any plans to join another political party, Desai added that he does not see anything change for the foreseeable future.

“Ultimately I have to live with my conscience. I can’t keep being at an anti-Semitic party, “Desai said.

Despite many calls for him to reconsider, he has sent his resignation letter to the leader of the Labor Party in the House of Lords, Baroness Angela Smith. He will now sit as an independent peer while his application to be part of the Crossbench group of the Upper House of the UK Parliament is ongoing, PTI reported.
