NEW DELHI: Amid prevalent chaos and uncertainty over access to the essential services and commodities during the lockdown, India reported more than 52,952 cases of coronavirus and 1,783 fatalities as of Thursday.

Here is a look at the latest updates on the outbreak of coronavirus from major Indian cities:

BENGALURU

  • Under pressure, Karnataka government to resume train services for migrant workers from Friday.
  • Eight new Covid positive cases reported in Karnataka since 5pm on Wednesday. Total number of cases in the state rised to 701.

DELHI

  • Construction of a South Delhi Municipal Corporation primary school resumes at Samaspur Khalsa area in Najafgarh.

  • Delhi govt will give ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore to family of Delhi Police constable Amit Kumar who died of Covid, says CM Arvind Kejriwal.
  • The total number of positive cases in Delhi stands at 5,532, of which 428 cases were reported yesterday. Total 12 patients are on ventilator. The doubling rate of Covid-19 in Delhi is 11 days now, says Delhi health minister Satyendra Jain.

LUCKNOW

  • The Uttar Pradesh government intends to bring back all its migrant laborers from other states and has sought district-wise lists from them, says chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
  • Civil Lines in Moradabad witnessed a huge rush of customers outside liquor shops.
  • After the Uttar Pradesh government revoked the ban on manufacture, storage and sale of ‘paan masala, the BJPs Unnao MP Sakshi Maharaj has questioned the decision.
  • CM Adityanath has asked various state governments to provide a list of migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh in their state so that arrangements could be made for their return.
  • The Uttar Pradesh Expressway and Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) restarted the construction of 340 km-long Purvanchal Expressway by engaging over 50 per cent of the workforce.

  • Two experts from Kolkata-based All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, appointed by the ministry of health to work in tandem with the state health department on the Covid-19 situation, will start their survey next week, starting with Kolkata, before moving to districts.
  • Testing spike reduces Covid-19 rate from 6.7% to 4.8% in West Bengal in three weeks.

  • Medical College and Hospital will start functioning as a Covid hospital from Thursday as the number of cases in the West Bengal continues to rise sharply.

CHENNAI

  • The city continues to witness long queues outside liquor shops. People were seen waiting in shade under Gandhipuram flyover near GP signal.
  • Tipplers in Tamil Nadu will have to carry age proof IDs when they go to buy booze on Thursday. This isn’t so much to keep away the underaged as to control crowds.
  • Tasmac shops reopened in Tamil Nadu after 42 days with proper arrangements to ensure social distancing.
  • The horticulture department will begin selling vegetables and fruits at five locations in the city from Thursday to tide over the shortage.

MUMBAI

  • 160 migrants were caught during nakabandi in Wadala trying to flee inside a truck to UP without following any guidelines or permissions. Police have arrrsted the truck driver.
  • An IAS officer from Mantralaya tests Covid positive. Earlier, four persons from the housekeeping staff had tested positive following which the Mantralaya was shut for two days for santisisation.
  • About 250 police personnel have tested positive for Covid19 in Mumbai. The number of symptomatic cases is very low and none of them are in ICU: Mumbai commissioner of police Param Bir Singh.
  • The BMC allows opening of standalone electric and hardware shop.

AHMEDABAD

  • All shops selling vegetables and fruits in Surat will remain closed in the city from May 9 to May 14. The announcement came a day after the Ahmedabad civic authorities ordered closure of all shops, except those selling milk and medicines, for a week.
  • A manager at Pandesara branch of Surat People’s Cooperative Bank tests positive for Covid-19. All the staff members of the bank shifted to Covid care center at Samras hostel in Surat.
  • A 45-year-old Covid positive woman dies in Bhavnagar. She had no comorbid conditions.
  • Bharuch district to be declared Covid-free today. Three last positive patients likely to be discharged from Jayaben Modi Covid-19 hospital at Ankleshwar.
  • Two people tested Covid positive in Rajkot, including a 38-year-old man from Manharplot area. I have recently returned from Ahmedabad. It’s a first positive case outside containment zone of Jangleshar in last three weeks.
