E-commerce platforms can resume selling non-essential products, including smartphones, laptops, and personal computers, even after the government extended the blockade another two weeks after May 4, amid the growing number of cases of Covid-19 in the country.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued guidelines for activities, which will be permitted and prohibited to varying degrees, in the red, orange and green areas of India to gradually allow businesses and individuals to resume their normal lives.

However, there are some conditions that apply to the sale of smartphones and other electronic products online. The government has not clarified whether physical stores can also start selling phones and laptops in green areas.

The sale of non-essential items through e-commerce platforms will only be allowed in those areas that have no or fewer cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), according to MHA guidelines.

Therefore, they will be able to deliver non-essential items only in those areas that have been marked below the orange and green areas.

However, they have not been allowed to resume sales and delivery of non-essential items in the red zones until further notice.

So if you are in Delhi and Mumbai and under a red zone, you will not be able to order any non-essential items.

The government had given e-commerce platforms a go-ahead to resume full operations before as well. He had said he would ease restrictions on e-commerce websites since April 20, but had revoked that order.
