NEW DELHI: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) said on Sunday that it will not contest the Bihar assembly elections under the prime minister’s leadership. Nitish kumar due to “ideological differences” and proposed a separate alliance with the Bjp.
According to a party statement, the LJP wants a BJP-led government in Bihar like that of the Center.
A meeting of the LJP parliamentary board chaired by its president Chirag Paswan passed a resolution in favor of an alliance with the BJP and said its MLAs will work to strengthen the hand of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“At the national level and in the Lok Sabha elections, LJP shares a strong alliance with the BJP,” said LJP National Secretary General Abdul Khaliq.
“We have no problem with the BJP. LJP will compete in all seats where JD (U) will place its candidates,” the party said.
The development comes less than a week before the end of nominations for the first of the three-phase elections.
On Saturday, the great opposition alliance had announced its seat-sharing pact under which the Tejashwi Yadav-led RJD would contest 144 of the 243 seats in the assembly, while Congress would fight for 70 seats. The remaining 29 seats have been awarded to the three left allies: CPM four, CPI six and CPI (ML) 19.
The Bihar assembly elections will be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7, with the vote counting taking place on November 10.
The meeting that was scheduled for Saturday was postponed due to the poor health of the Union minister. Ram Vilas Paswan. The Union minister was admitted to a hospital in Delhi, where he underwent heart surgery today.
The BJP central electoral committee will meet later in the evening to finalize the party’s candidates for the three-phase assembly elections.
