Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) Chairman Chirag Paswan broke his silence on Saturday (November 28) on the BJP’s decision to nominate Sushil Modi for the Rajya Sabha seat won by his father, Ram Vilas Paswan, saying that it was the prerogative of the BJP to announce a candidate for the seat.
The seat was vacated after the death of LJP founder Ram Vilas Paswan. By nominating Sushil Modi, the BJP has sent a clear message that Sushil Modi’s role in Bihar politics is over and he will work for the BJP at the national level.
It should be recalled that Ram Vilas Paswan was elected to the seat in 2019 after BJP leader and Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad won the 2019 Lok Sabha election of Patna Sahib. After Paswan’s disappearance, there were demands to nominate his wife Reena Paswan from this seat to the Upper House.
“The seat belonged to the BJP and it is the party that decides which party’s candidate to run in the by-elections,” Chirag told reporters at a function held to celebrate the 20th day of his party’s founding.
At the event, the LJP supreme called on his party workers to prepare for the next assembly elections in Bihar, which Chirag said could take place “at any time”. Paswan said he saw “new elections taking place at any time in Bihar, given the way the new government is working.”

Former deputy CM from Bihar is expected to win unopposed elections unless the RJD-led ‘Mahagathbandhan’ comes up with a candidate to challenge him. Some reports claimed that the RJD plans to nominate the state chairman of the RJD, Jagdanand Singh, or the party leader, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, for the post of Rajya Sabha.
