Things have gotten desperate for KXIP, five losses in six games have put them in big trouble. They are at the bottom of the table with just a colon. Inconsistencies in all departments have hurt them a lot. Their middle order hasn’t shot in unison and there has been a lot of reliance on starters KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal.
Aside from Nicholas Pooran, none of the middle-order hitters clicked in the 200-man chase against SRH after the first few failed. Death bowling was ultimately good against SRH, however the powerplay and middle overs were not incisive enough and it leaked too many runs.
There have also been questions about Rahul’s approach to the power play, but the KXIP captain has brushed them off.

There are chances that we will finally see Chris Gayle in action against SSR if he has fully recovered from food poisoning.
KXIP needs to step up in all departments in order to create a resurgence.
KKR, on the other hand, enters the game with a win against CSK. They have three wins and two losses in five games and would seek consistency. The move to promote Rahul Tripathi to start worked wonders when he scored a game-winning 81 of 51 balls against CSK. However, the rest of the hitting should shoot up steadily. Neither batter crossed 20 against Chennai. Captain Dinesh Karthik’s form is also a concern. He impressed with his captaincy against CSK and would desperately seek to make amends with the bat against KXIP.
The bowlers did well to defend 168 against CSK. Young people like Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Varun Chakravarthy took responsibility and delivered. KKR would consistently expect this from its youth.
Given KXIP’s struggles, KKR starts out as favorites.
