11.15 am local time / 5.45 am IST: rain arrives at SCG
Rain was forecast and here it is! It is largely the field that is covered with the referees under the umbrellas after the players ran off the field. Andrew McGlashan from the ground: “There is a line of downpours from the south. Today was the day with the highest probability of interruptions. The forecast for the next four days is good.” Twelve minutes after the players left, it had stopped raining and the blankets were being removed.
It will be interesting to see if this will add any swings once play resumes. Meanwhile, there has been a lot of debate on social media about Mayank Agarwal’s delisting. Was it fair to leave it out? Vote in the poll below:
11 a.m. local time / 5.30 a.m. IST: Siraj eliminates Warner by 5
A very intriguing 18 minute stay for Warner. He ran those fast singles with visible groin discomfort, eager to rotate the strike, and falls after flashing well outside twice in a row in front of Siraj. On the second ball of the fourth over, he went after one that drifted away from the outside, and when Siraj threw it further and the next ball a little fuller, Warner didn’t move his feet enough to get closer to the ball while chasing it. and sharpened at the first slip. Pucovski, meanwhile, is doing well outside as he walks around the stumps a bit, and received a goalie in the first over from Bumrah. There is no swing at all in this field even though it rained a bit before the test, and something more is expected today and tomorrow. Australia 18 to 1 after the first half hour. “It looks like a really good batting court,” Glenn McGrath says in the television commentary.
David Warner looks considerably short of maximum pace between grounds early on #AUSvIND

Massive huge window at the beginning of what appears to be a really good hitting surface. Siraj bowls like a bowler who has been playing test cricket for years. Warner is gone! #AUSvIND

10.35 am local time / 5.05 am IST: Warner and Pucovski depart
PUC

Wow, Australia is going to be excited for Warner’s return. He’s still not 100% fit after his groin injury, but given the nature of this series and all that is at stake, Australia has decided to play him, accompanied by a debut. Tim Paine said Warner’s “high energy” at launch will bolster his “confidence.” Not forgetting that Australia has endured its slowest home scoring series of the century so far, just before the 2018-19 series that also didn’t feature Warner. Pucovski, on the other hand, has been in the Test setup for nearly a year, has a history of concussion injuries, and has worked his way into Test XI with many national cricket careers. Here’s more on Pucovski’s journey so far.
10.10 am local time / 4.40 am IST: two more debuts in the series

– ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) January 6, 2021
After Cameron Green in Adelaide, Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj at MCG, we have two more rookies as expected: Will Pucovski and Navdeep Saini. Pucovski capped by Andrew McDonald and Saini by Jasprit Bumrah. Australia has opted to hit, with David Warner in place of Travis Head and Matthew Wade in the middle order. For India, we already knew yesterday that Rohit Sharma will open with Mayank Agarwal given the ax, and Saini debuting because Umesh Yadav has flown back home.
Speaking of fast players, India’s rhythm drummer has Jasprit Bumrah, Siraj and Saini with a 17 combined test experience compared to Australia count of 144Thanks to Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins. That’s something Australia will be excited about because they haven’t had to change their attack since the first test.
10am local time / 4.30am IST: more reports on doubts about the fourth test in Brisbane
And we already have news, even before the coin has been launched. Here is Andrew McGlashan with what he is preparing in Australia for the Brisbane test:
Cricket Australia will seek clarification from BCCI after further suggestions emerged that India would not travel to Brisbane for the final test, but will continue to insist that they have not been informed of the concerns. And a report from Thursday morning said that the BCCI had officially written to CA to tell them that they did not want to go to Brisbane. However, ESPNcricinfo understands that the updated plans for Gabba’s test, in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak in Sydney that led to border restrictions on Queensland, were approved by BCCI office holders on December 29 and were not released. they have received objections since then.
CA has largely been dealing with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and it is understood that he will seek further talks on Thursday.
Players are not confined to their rooms when at team hotels in Sydney and Brisbane, which have been fully booked by Cricket Australia, and can mingle in common areas. The only difference is that the restrictions in Sydney are CA protocols, while those in Brisbane are imposed by the Queensland government as terms to allow the granting of exemptions.
9.55 a. M. Local time / 4.25 a. M. IST: warm up for launch
Hello everyone and a very warm welcome to the third round of this exciting series which is level 1-1. Another test, possible another series of debuts (there is at least one confirmed from India), another close race for WTC points and ICC rankings (New Zealand is on top now), another debate on selection, another debate on who’s going to open, and much more. I’ll steal the words of Tim Paine and say that “the tension begins to boil under the surface.”
