LIVE MARKET: Record Indices; Sensex rises 200 points, Nifty exceeds 13,600

Indian markets climbed to new record highs on Wednesday, following strong gains in Asian indices.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose 240 points, or 0.5 percent, to 46,500 levels. The index reached an intraday high of 46,592. Meanwhile, the wider Nifty50 topped the 13,650 mark. Mahindra & Mahindra was up 3 percent and was Sensex’s top winner after saying it will raise prices for its entire range of passenger and commercial vehicles starting next month. Additionally, ONGC (2% increase), Asian Paints, Bajaj Finance and Tata Steel (all 1% increase) were the other top winners.

All Nifty industry indices except the Nifty PSU Bank index were strong, led by the Nifty Metal index, up 1%.

In the broader markets, the S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were up half a percent.
