LIVE market updates: India’s benchmark indices failed to sustain a slight recovery and fell more than half a percent in the midday session on Monday, with financials, auto and metals stocks the main downsides.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell 350 points to 46,612 and the Nifty50 index fell below the 13,650 level. ONGC, Mahindra & Mahindra, IndusInd Bank and State Bank of India (all down 3%) were Sensex’s main laggards. On the other hand, Reliance Industries rose 1% after the conglomerate and its partner BP announced the first gas from the R Cluster, an ultra-deepwater gas field in the KG D6 block off the east coast of India.

Meanwhile, aviation stocks were under pressure in intraday deals for the closure of the UK border, with SpiceJet and InterGlobe Aviation falling 5% and 3%, respectively.

Most of the Nifty sector indices were trading in the red, led by the Nifty PSU Bank index, down 2%.
