Can the defending champs outshine the league leaders?

Easy in the end.Keiron Pollard and Krunal Pandya ensure MI completed the chase easily at the end with three balls to spare. Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav set the tone and made it easy for the rest with the respective fifty. Even though they fell shortly after, it didn’t matter given that the racing vs. balls equation was in Mumbai favor by then. They chased 163 with five wickets in hand, earning their fifth victory. Mumbai tops the table with that victory with Delhi in second place.

Magnificent victory of the Mumbai Indians. They really do look like an extremely difficult team to beat. They have the bowlers, the batsmen are getting the job done. They are such a comprehensive unit that no team can ask those tough questions so far this season. As the games go by, they have only increased their consistency and are delivering match winning performances time and time again.

DC would have felt they fell 15 short in the end. Stoinis’ premature flight hurt them. Hetmyer and Missing Pant could have played a role as well. Carey couldn’t continue nor Rahane given it was his first games this season. They still have a lot to do, but they will want to maintain the winning momentum, with five wins under their belt so far.

Thank you for your company for another doubleheader weekend. I look forward to having your company tomorrow when RCB meets KKR.

A very satisfying win for two reasons for @mipaltan. They won by chasing a high-quality bowling team and a different player won the man of the match award. They seem like a complete team right now even without Hardik Pandya bowling.

18 of 18 needed for MI. Easy peasy? Or do we have a twist?

Very high quality entries from @ surya_14kumar. Again. In the last two years he has married consistency with his undeniable talent and style.

Two in fast time: Surya and Hardik go down

Surya follows the QdK template. It falls immediately after reaching fifty. An ambitious pickup shot against Rabada, but it only manages to miss in the long run.

Hardik Pandya then falls into the next Stoinis for a two-ball duck. The equation is still comfortable for ME.They need 33 out of 28.

How good is @ surya_14kumar 👀👀 I love seeing him in full flow 🔥🔥

Surya completes 50, MI approaching victory

A 30-ball half century for Surya. He has found his rhythm well. Delhi found a small opening afterwards, but he hit her back in the face with this blow. Top performance once again.

FIFTY OUT! Ashwin attacks when Quinton de Kock is holed up.Ashwin makes the breakthrough once again when the ‘goalie-hitter falls in love with 53.

FIFTY FOR De Kock! He’s made hitting look easy, especially after Rohit’s downfall. He’s been on the song so far in his 52 of 34 balls. MI is doing very well in pursuit. Placed quite comfortably.

Brave Iyer to do many effects on the PP. This #MIvDC movement can go either way

OOOUT!Rohit dies while trying to grow up. Axar rewarded for his tight bowling game. Rabada makes a good catch deep. WED – 1/31.

We are back for the chase

I NEED 163 TO WIN!Mumbai has done very well here to keep DC at 162/4. They got off to a good start sending Shaw and Rahane back early, but a return position hosted by Iyer and Dhawan saw them back in the game. However, Iyer and Stoinis in shape falling in quick succession meant DC finished with perhaps 10-15 less than they could have gotten. Dhawan remained undefeated at the end at 69 of 52, but couldn’t give them a late flourish to finish with over 170.

However, it seems a score on par in this wicket. It will be interesting to see how MI goes after a very efficient DC bowling team.

OUTSIDE! Oh darling! Stoinis has to go.He started to run, but Dhawan didn’t particularly respond. Easy window for Mumbai Indians.

FIFTY FOR DHAWAN!Its first half century is IPL. After two plots fell early, he did anchor It comes from only 39 balls.

OUTSIDE! Boult clings to a good catch that forces Iyer to leave.Krunal gets his second window of the day. He doesn’t seize one that he seeks to stop the deep midwicket. Krunal breaks the stand of 85. Iyer leaves for 42.

100 for Delhi on the 14th.

Iyer and Dhawan are doing well here to revive DC.The wickets in hand are key so that they can hit the first blow at the end. DC hitters are grappling in singles and doubles, with an odd cap, but keeping Mumbai at bay. The pair have added 50 runs of 33 balls.

Some statistics for you …IM markers in Powerplay overs: 36 overs | 10 weeks | Average 25.00 | SR 21.6 | ER 6.94

That’s the powerplay and DC are 46/2.

Krunal takes Rahane off his second ball. The partnership between Dhawan and Rahane was growing, but the twist produced a window almost immediately. Rahane has her leg trapped earlier and has to go. Rahane leaves for 15,

Boult attacks in the first over

Mumbai Indians land the first hit early. The dangerous Prithvi Shaw does not survive the first change. He tightens a limit on the third man, but throws the next ball straight to cover. Sixth wicket in the PP for Boult this IPL!

Enter DC’s newcomer Ajinkya Rahane at No. 3

Injured Pant is lost; Rahane and Carey get a game: DC chooses to hit

Alex Carey will keep the grounds and that means Hetmyer is lost. Ajinkya Rahane arrives for her DC debut. However, I wonder where he hits. Remember Pant was limping in that game against the Royals. That must be the injury they’re talking about.

MI has not changed.

Preview: teams that love to hit first

Both teams have preferred to hit first in this edition of IPL. Delhi’s only defeat was when they chased in the game against SRH. Mumbai ‘s only chase was against RCB, who lost in the Super Over. It’s going to be a used course in Abu Dhabi, which should make The Toss even more crucial.

H2H: 12-12

Prelude: defending champs vs. league leaders

Hi. Go back to the early part of the last decade and there were only two teams really powering the Mumbai Indians: Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Now a new challenger has emerged. Delhi Capitals, with their variety of youngsters, made the playoffs last season. But now they seek top honors. They have been the form team for the first half of IPL 2020, having lost just one game so far. That’s one short of the defending champs, who they face in this tasty clash at the top of the table in Abu Dhabi.

As with any IPL game, this one will also be about matchups and personalities. But don’t forget a man sitting at the head of DC’s support staff. Ricky Ponting! He was part of that revolution in MI and his titles won in 2013 and 2015 (as head coach). He knows all about how that team works.

Buckle up, people. This should be fun!
