Let theaters open from October 15: Delhi government to LG

The Delhi government on Tuesday sent a proposal to Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal, urging him to allow the theaters, cinemas and multiplex cinemas in the capital to open from October 15 according to central government guidelines, a senior official said. of the government.

The matter, the official said, was briefly discussed at the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting on Tuesday without any conclusion.

The need for a revised Covid-19 management strategy and the modalities of an intensive awareness campaign in light of the upcoming holiday season was also discussed in detail at Tuesday’s meeting.

The DDMA is chaired by Baijal and Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal is its Vice President.

“These discussions will continue at the next authority meeting which is likely to occur in another week,” said the top DDMA official quoted above.

The next DDMA meeting, the official said, is likely to see detailed discussions on the Ramlila, Durga Puja celebrations and further loosening of lockdown rules, especially with regard to movie theaters, theaters and multiplexes.

The government’s proposal came after the Center on Tuesday issued guidelines on movie theaters and multiplexes that have been allowed to open under the new reopening guidelines as of Oct. 15, after being closed for more than six months in view. of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The proposal on movie theaters was only briefly discussed at the DDMA meeting but there was no decision. The Delhi government has already sent a proposal to LG, urging it to allow movie theaters to open according to the rules set by the Center. The same proposal includes a demand to allow the opening of all weekly markets in each zone, ”said the government official, who did not want to be named.

Last month, the government had submitted a proposal to open all weekly markets, but LG allowed only a small relaxation by allowing two weekly markets per day per zone instead of the current one.

On September 18, Baijal had ordered the government to draft a new strategy for the containment zones, which has yet to be finalized, several senior officials confirmed. The current strategy under discussion requires districts to have area-specific containment plans that accommodate planned localities, unauthorized colonias, rural areas, etc., a senior revenue department official said without elaborating.

After Tuesday’s meeting, Baijal tweeted: “Discussed recent trends of the Covid-19 situation in Delhi and reviewed the strategy as suggested by experts, including prospective planning for the management of Covid-19 in the coming months. “.

The meeting was attended by Kejriwal, MP CM Manish Sisodia, Minister of Revenue and Transportation Kailash Gahlot, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev, NITI member Aayog, Dr. VK Paul, AIIMS Director, Dr. Randeep Guleria and the director of the national center for disease control, Dr. Sujeet Kumar Singh, said Baijal in another tweet.
