New Delhi:
BJP veteran Uma Bharti said on Friday that “suspicious actions” by the police in the Hathras incident have damaged the image of the Uttar Pradesh government and the party, when she urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to call on the policemen who besieged the house. and the village of a 20-year-old Dalit woman who was allegedly raped and died two weeks later, sparking anger across the country.
The BJP leader, who is in treatment for COVID-19, published nine tweets in which he asked the Chief Minister to allow the media and politicians, including the opposition, to meet with the family and criticized the haste with which the young woman was incinerated.
“She was the daughter of a Dalit family. The police hastily cremated her and now the family and the village police are under siege,” she wrote in Hindi.
“At first I thought I shouldn’t say anything because you should be taking action on it. However, the way the police have put a siege to the victim’s people and family is worrying regardless of the arguments in their favor. It may be “Ms. Bharti said.
“I am not aware of any rule that a family cannot meet with anyone due to an investigation by the SIT (Special Investigation Team). Doing so would cast doubt on the SIT investigation,” he said.
“We have just laid the foundation stone for the Ram Temple and have claimed to bring Ram Rajya to the country ahead, but due to the suspicious actions of the police regarding this incident, the image of the Uttar Pradesh government and the BJP has been seen affected, “he added. she said.
“He has a very clean image. I ask him to let the media and other political parties know about the aggrieved family,” he said.
“If I hadn’t tested positive for the coronavirus, I would have been sitting with the family as well. I will definitely meet them once I am discharged … I am older than you and as an older sister. I ask that you not ignore my request,” Added Ms. Bharti.
Outraged by the savage attack on the young woman, protests broke out in many cities across the country on Friday, including one in Delhi attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Chandrashekar Azad, chief of the Bhim army, representing members of the Dalit community.
The woman’s family has charged four men from so-called “higher caste” communities, who have been arrested but not charged by the police.
While the family says the woman died as a result of a brutal sexual assault, Senior State Police Officer Prashant Kumar said Thursday that the woman died of a neck injury. “No sperm were found in the samples,” Kumar said.
The ruling BJP has accused opposition parties, including Congress, which has played a key role in the protests, of trying to politicize the issue, and assured that the victim’s family will get justice.
