Left sweeps local body polls in Kerala | India News

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After months of campaigning by the United Democratic Front (UDF) and Bjp almost destroyed the goodwill that the Covid-19 response of the Pinarayi Vijayan government, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) had generated in Kerala it recorded a resounding victory in all three phases of local agency polls, the results of which were announced on Wednesday.
The LDF won most of the district panchayats, block panchayats, gram panchayats, and municipal corporations. The only consolation for the UDF was the slight advantage it obtained in the municipalities. Although the BJP improved its account since 2015, the party could not come close to its ambitious plans.
The LDF won in 10 district panchayats against seven in 2015. Four of the six corporations are also ready to welcome LDF tips. Most of the block panchayats, 108 out of 152, were also absorbed by LDF. He also won 514 of the 941 gram panchayats. The UDF, which won 375 gram panchayats, will form the governing council in 45 of 86 municipalities. LDF won 35 municipalities, while NDA won two. The NDA also obtained 23 grams of panchayats in addition to maintaining its position as the main opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Thiruvananthapuram.
Political observers see victory as a personal vindication Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who had to face serious accusations related to the gold smuggling scam and the Life Mission housing scam, which the UDF and the BJP had launched.
Former CM Senior Secretary M Sivasankar and additional private secretary CM Raveendran are allegedly involved in these cases, but CMF leadership was confident that the initiatives launched by the government in the last four and a half years would combine development and welfare would be all that the voters cared about. The results seem to have proved them right.
“This is a victory for the people. The victory of all who have committed to stand together. This result is a response to those who are trying to demolish Kerala and its achievements, ”said Pinarayi. “The UDF has become insignificant, while the high claims of the BJP have failed,” he told reporters after the results were announced.
Among the factors that drove LDF’s rise is the consolidation of minority votes across the state. The bet to ally with the faction of the Kerala Congress (M) led by Jose K Mani it also strengthened the link between the LDF and minorities. The victories won by the LDF in the Kottayam, Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts are due in part to the entry of the Jose K Mani faction.
The decision to introduce economic reserves in jobs and educational institutions is believed to have stalled the shift from upper caste Hindu voters to the BJP camp. The establishment of the Sree Narayana Open University and the installation of a statue of Sree Narayana in the capital city were supports for the Ezhava community, the traditional vote bank of CPM and CPI.
The CM referred to anti-incumbency and noted that it was neither easy nor common for a ruling front to register such a victory after years in office. Many institutions of local organizations had to face a double antitrust – against the council of government and the government – but they ended up winning. “Our government has already implemented 570 of the 600 promises made in our manifesto. Several other projects were also launched. All these actions are valued by the people, ”said Pinarayi. He also recalled crises such as the floods of 2018, Nipah and Covid-19 and how the state fought against them in a united way.
With the assembly elections on the threshold, the LDF is viewing the results as a message to carry out the good work and ensure permanence in office, while the result has come as a surprise to the UDF.
