Before Raghava Lawrence became a successful director, he began his career as a dancer. The filmmaker, who ventured into Hindi cinema with Akshay Kumar and Laxmii, the star of Kiara Advani, was once a background dancer behind Prabhudeva.
In the song Chikku Bukku Rayile from the 1993 Tamil film Gentleman, Raghava was one of the background dancers. In July this year, she shared a souvenir picture with Prabhudeva from her dancing days and wrote, “Sweet memories with the prabudeva teacher!”
Raghava made her foray into Bollywood with Laxmii, a remake of her Tamil horror comedy Muni 2: Kanchana. The film stars Akshay as a man possessed by the spirit of a transgender person who seeks revenge.
In a tweet hours before Laxmii’s launch, Raghava had written: “Hello friends and fans, Laxmi, my debut Hindi directing film, will be released on #Disneyplushotstar at 7.05pm today. Through the Tamil film Kanchana, I wanted to convey the pain and struggles of transgender people and the film received a lot of appreciation from the transgender community and the public. “

Raghava also praised Akshay for agreeing to such a “tough” role. “Similarly, when Akshay sir is performing in his Hindi remake, I hope the message will reach a wider audience. Normally actors don’t take such tough roles, but I think Mr. Akshay, being such a good human being, cares a lot about society and has given many movies with good messages before. My special thanks to Akshay sir for accepting and playing this role and I would like to extend my thanks to Sister Shabina for the entire process of this film, Tusshar sir, Kiara Advani for acting wonderfully, my DOP Vetri, my co-directors and all the technicians who they worked for this movie, ”he wrote.
Laxmii got a direct-to-digital release on November 9 on Disney + Hotstar. The film will open in theaters in select international markets: United Arab Emirates, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Mauritius, Thailand and South Africa.
