Laxmii director Raghava Lawrence applauds Akshay Kumar and says ‘normally actors wouldn’t take such difficult roles’ – bollywood

Filmmaker Raghava Lawrence has praised actor Akshay Kumar for lending his star power to his upcoming film, Laxmii. His comments come after transgender rights activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi said the film was sensitive to the issue.

In a tweet, Raghava wrote: “Hello friends and fans, Laxmi, my Hindi debut movie, will premiere on #Disneyplushotstar at 7.05pm today. Through the Tamil film Kanchana, I wanted to convey the pain and struggles of transgender people and the film received a lot of appreciation from the transgender community and the public. “

He continued: “Similarly, when Akshay sir is performing in his Hindi remake, I hope the message will reach a wider audience. Normally actors don’t take such tough roles, but I think that Mr. Akshay, being such a good human being, cares a lot about society and has given many movies with good messages before. My special thanks to Akshay sir for accepting and playing this role and I would like to extend my thanks to Sister Shabina for the entire process of this film, Tusshar sir, Kiara Advani for acting wonderfully, my DOP Vetri, my co-directors and all the technicians who they worked for this movie. “

Hours earlier, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi had endorsed the film, a horror comedy co-starring Kiara Advani. “Some publications oppose and publish articles against. How much do they know about reality? I am really surprised. What do you mean by that? There are many movies that I also acted in, nobody bought it, it is a business. Without seeing a movie, on the eve of its premiere, these articles are being written. I’ve seen the movie … I think it’s wonderful, and instead of criticism, we should appreciate Akshay ji for being such a strong man and making such a strong movie, ”he told Hindustan Times.

Akshay Kumar plays a man possessed by the spirit of a trans person in the film, which opens on Disney + Hotstar on Monday.
