Lawyer Allegedly Dies by Suicide in Support of Farmers’ Protest

According to PTI, police said they are verifying the authenticity of the suicide note, which is dated December 18.

A police officer from the Jhajjar district of Haryana told PTI:

AT LEAST TWO OTHER SUICIDES

At least two other suicides have been linked to the farmers’ unrest.

A 22-year-old farmer, Gurlabh Singh from Dayalpura Mirza village in Punjab, recently returned from the Singhu border on Friday, December 18. The next day, he allegedly consumed poison and committed suicide. Police, according to NDTV, claimed he was taken to the nearest hospital and declared ‘taken dead’, and the motive for his alleged suicide is still unknown.

A Sikh priest from Karnal, Punjab, committed suicide on Wednesday, December 16. In his suicide note, Baba Ram Singh said that he could not see the suffering and “injustice” spread among the farmers and subsequently shot himself.

Furthermore, as reported by The Indian Express41 farmers have died in Delhi and Punjab since protests against agricultural laws against the Center escalated.
