Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar’s building has been sealed off by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as a precautionary measure amid the coronavirus pandemic. The 90-year-old singer resides in the Prabhukunj building on Peddar Road in South Mumbai.
The Mangeshkar family, in a statement, said the building was sealed as it houses many older people. “We have been inundated with calls all night asking if Prabhukunj is sealed. The Building Society and the BMC have sealed it since the beginning of the epidemic as we have older people at home and in the building and it is mandatory to take these precautions. Even our usual Ganesha holiday celebrations were simple family, this time to cooperate and support social distancing, ”the statement read.
There were reports that some residents of the building had tested positive for COVID-19, but the family asked supporters not to allow any speculation. “Please do not react to any rumors about the health of our relatives, especially. We, as a construction society in unison, are taking the utmost caution, care and cooperation to ensure the well-being and safety of all seniors, especially and also of all other resident members.
“By the grace of God and the wishes of many, the family is safe,” the statement said.
On Saturday, the coronavirus case count in Maharashtra rose to 7,64,281 with a record 16,867 new cases.
