The last rites of the Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Ram Vilas Paswan were performed on Saturday by his son Chirag in Patna. The 74-year-old minister had died Thursday in New Delhi.
A large crowd, including several political leaders, gathered in front of Paswan’s residence to pay the last respect to the late leader. The mortal remains of the LJP founder were transferred from Delhi to Patna on Friday for the last rites.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP Chairman JP Nadda and several other leaders paid tribute to the late leader at his residence in the national capital.
Paswan became an iconic leader in Indian politics by winning eight times in the Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency between 1977 and 2014. In 1977 and 1980, Paswan won with a candidacy from the Janata Party. In 1977, he set a Guinness World Record by winning the Hajipur election with a 4.24 lakh margin of votes, the maximum margin for any politician in the world. It remained undisputed for a long time.
