Mumbai City Center Mall Fire: Two firefighters were injured in a large fire that broke out at the City Center Mall in downtown Mumbai late Thursday. The fire was declared as a “brigade call” as all the locomotives in the entire city were moved to the scene.

Everyone present inside the mall was safely evacuated. About 3,500 residents of a neighboring 55-story orchid enclave were moved as a precaution.

Two firefighters were injured during the operations and were admitted to JJ Hospital.

The fire, which broke out on the second floor, also spread to the third floor of the mall. Up to 24 fire trucks and 16 giant water tankers were transported to the scene.

The incident also resulted in traffic disruptions as both sides of the Belasis highway were closed for vehicle movement.

Among the injured firefighters, Shamrao Jalan Banjara was admitted to the hospital for suffocation. His condition is now stable, said a disaster management official.

Ramesh Prabhakar Chaugule, on the other hand, suffered injuries to his right hand. Both firefighters have been treated and released from the hospital.
