Samastipur:

RJD President Lalu Prasad’s eldest son, Tej Pratap Yadav, on Tuesday presented his nomination for the Hasanpur assembly constituency in Samastipur district, which will go to the polls in the second phase on November 3.

He was accompanied by his younger brother and Grand Alliance chief ministerial candidate, Tejashwi Yadav.

The two brothers arrived in Samastipur from Patna in a helicopter to present the nomination papers for Tej Pratap.

As the two brothers entered Subdivisional Officer (SDO) Rosera’s chamber to complete the formalities, hundreds of RJD workers gathered outside the SDO office in violation of social distancing rules.

Samastipur (DM) District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar said action will be taken against those who violate social distancing rules after an investigation.

The DM said he has asked for the video of the occasion to learn of allegations of violation of social distancing rules by people who had gathered in large numbers to cheer on the two brothers.

Tej Pratap, who won the last assembly elections in 2015 for Mahua in Vaishali district, has resigned and this time has moved to Hasanpur.

A section of the media claimed that Tej Pratap, who is embroiled in a marriage dispute with lawmaker Chandrika Rai’s daughter Aishwarya Rai, decided to move out of the Mahua seat, fearing that she could confront him in the constituency.

“Bihar today has an unemployment rate of 46.6 percent, probably the highest in the country. This speaks to the truth of development under the Nitish Kumar regime,” Tej Pratap told reporters.

“The government prevented migrant workers from returning home during the COVID pandemic,” he alleged.

Tejashwi Yadav affirmed that the Grand Alliance will win the elections and come to power.

The Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD, has as members Congress and left-wing parties.

Regarding the chances of his brother holding the Hasanpur seat, he said they have faith in constituency voters who will guarantee his victory.
