Lakshmi Vilas Bank: The banking regulator took control of Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) on Tuesday and forced a merger with the local unit of Singapore’s largest lender, DBS Bank. The government, at the request of the RBI, has limited withdrawals of deposits in ₹25,000 in LVB for a month.
Indiabulls Home Financing: The Reserve Bank of India rejected the shadow banker’s proposal to merge with Lakshmi Vilas Bank in October last year due to its high exposure to real estate. The mortgage lender has 4.99% in LVB.
Private sector banks: Shares of non-PSU banks will come under selling pressure amid growing concerns about the financial health of these lenders following the LVB issue. This is the third time in just over a year that RBI has taken control of a private bank. The other two were PMC Bank and Yes Bank.
