Bhopal:
A 3-year-old Labrador retriever will undergo a DNA test in Madhya Pradesh’s Hoshangabad to end a property dispute.
Shadab Khan and Kartik Shivhare claim that the dog is theirs.
Khan alleges that his missing black Lab, named Coco, was held captive at Shivhare’s home and also claimed that they were trying to sell him.
The Shivhare family claims it is their dog named Tiger.
Shadab Khan, a journalist by profession, registered a missing report of her dog Coco with the police in August.
Recently, he tracked the dog to the home of Mr. Shivhare, an ABVP leader. He went home to take the dog, but the latter resisted, claiming it was the canine’s human.
Mr. Khan went to the police on November 18 with a complaint, photographs and some receipts. He also demanded a DNA test. The next day, Mr. Shivhare arrived at the police station with a complaint claiming ownership of the dog.
Khan claimed he bought the dog from Pachmarhi in 2017, while Shivhare said he got it from a breeder in Itarsi a few weeks ago. On Friday, police took the dog into custody and collected its blood samples on Saturday for a DNA test to verify its relationship, and through that, its genuine owner.
“DNA samples were collected on Saturday. Investigations are ongoing. We will release the dog to its genuine owner after DNA reports come in,” said police officer Hemant Sharma.
Surprisingly, the dog responds to both names: Coco and Tiger, and is friendly to both applicants.
