Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli has been fined Rs. 12 lakh on Thursday for holding a slow excessive rate against King XI Punjab. “As it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct related to minimally overrated offenses, Mr. Kohli was fined 12 lakh rupees,” the IPL said in a statement.
The legendary Indian hitter had an unforgettable night at the Dubai International Stadium. While he dropped two captures of Centurion KL Rahul, which turned out to be costly, Kohli was also unable to contribute anything substantial with the willow.
On the other hand, his KXIP counterpart Rahul broke some records en route to a 132 of 69 balls, the highest ever scored by an Indian in an IPL game.
Kohli dropped Rahul twice: once in the 17th over on deep square leg when he was hitting at 83 and then again in the 18 over when he was at 89. The lapses helped KXIP score an impressive 206 of 3, with Rahul doing the bulk. of the score.
Maintaining that it wasn’t the best day at the office on Thursday, Kohli in the post-match presentation said: “I have to stand up front and take the worst of it, not the best day at the office, a couple of big opportunities from KL when I was ready and that cost us 35-40 runs at a later stage. Maybe if we restricted them to 180 we wouldn’t have been under the pressure of the first chase ball. “
