Mohammed Shami led from the front as the Kings XI Punjab bowlers pushed the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on the hindfoot, restricting them to 25/2 in the power play. After opting to hit, KKR found it difficult against KXIP’s new bowling throwers Shami and Arshdeep Singh, who threw tight lines and caused them a lot of trouble. Shami cleared Rahul Tripathi to give Kings XI Punjab the first breakthrough. A mix-up in the next over resulted in Nitish Rana losing his wicket after both batters finished on the same end. The young and medium pace Arshdeep Singh was the most economical of them all, conceding just two runs on his two-more spell within the power play. Previously, KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik won the toss and opted to hit. Both sides made a change in their game XI. Kings XI Punjab included Chris Jordan in place of the injured Sheldon Cottrell, while KKR also made a change in their bowling department with Shivam Mavi resting to make way for Prasidh Krishna.
