KXIP vs. DC: Dhawan’s Historic Hundred Goes to Vain as Kings XI Punjab Overtake Delhi Capitals | Cricket news

DUBAI: Shikhar dhawanThe historic hundred was in vain as Kings XI Punjab table leaders passed Capitals of Delhi across five wickets for their third straight win to keep their Indian Premier League play-off hopes alive on Tuesday.
Dhawan became the first batter to hit consecutive hundreds of IPL with his 106 undefeated against 61 balls being the only bright spot in Delhi’s 164 for five.

For a change, it ended up being an easy chase for KXIP despite a rare miss from their starting partner of KL Rahul (15) and Mayank Agarwal (5), who had made most of the scoring for the team in previous games.
Nicholas pooran (53 of 28) appeared with another blind blow and Glenn maxwell (32 of 24) finally found some way to prepare for victory.

Jimmy Neesham (10 not out of 8) hit all six winners when KXIP came home in 19 overs.
With the top three in the low-priced KXIP form, it was an ordeal for their shaky medium order that went well overnight.
Rahul mishit one in half while Agarwal was left without after a great deal of confusion with Pooran.
Gayle once again looked sinister, but left shortly after hitting Tushar Deshpande in his 26-run start. R Ashwin found the Jamaican stumps with a slider.

With KXIP at 63 for 3 in powerplay, it was left to Pooran and Maxwell to rescue the team.
Pooran eased the pressure with another demonstration of clean hits. His blitzkrieg propelled KXIP to 101 for three in the first 10 overs with just 64 to get from the last 60 balls.
The West Indian were unable to see the team, but Maxwell eventually got a few runs under his belt to bring the team close to victory.
Previously, Shikhar Dhawan’s sensational effort led the Delhi Capitals to 164-for-five after his team opted to hit. His memorable entries included 12 fours and three sixes.
It looked like he was hitting on a different surface with the second-highest score of innings coming from skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, who each hit 14.
KXIP pitched well late in the innings to restrict the CD below 180 with leader Mohammed Shami (2/28) being the featured artist.
Fresh out of a hundred in the last game, Dhawan started by sweeping Glenn Maxwell in the opening.
Shaw, who failed to break off the mark in the previous two games, perished cheaply once again, trying to crush Jimmy Neesham for additional coverage when he wasn’t in position to play that passing shot.
Iyer also didn’t last long after going off the mark with a high coverage drive that went to six with Delhi reaching 83 for two in 10 overs.
At the other end, Dhawan grew in confidence and an example of that was the way he drove a full ball from Shami over the midfield.
The southpaw crossed the 5,000-run mark in the IPL by sweeping Ravi Bishnoi with a square leg deep six, becoming the fifth batter to do so in tournament history.
He reached his century, another milestone, with a double pacemaker on Arshdeep Singh’s left arm.
However, it did not get the required support from the other extreme as Delhi finished with a below average total.
