Kumble, the best captain I have ever played with, says Gambhir | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Former India starter Gautam Gambhir named his former teammate Anil Kumble the best captain he played with during his time with the national team. Gambhir recognized the exploits of other great patrons such as Sourav Ganguly and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, but placed Kumble on top.

The cricketer-turned-politician believes that if Kumble had led Team India for a longer period, he would have broken all captaincy records.

“Yes, MS Dhoni from the point of view of records, but yes, for me the best captain I have ever played with is Anil Kumble,” Gambhir said during the Star Sports Cricket Connected show.

“Sourav has done really well. One captain who would definitely have wanted to captain India for a long time is Anil Kumble. I probably played six test matches with him; he had not captained India for that long. If he had captained India for a long time , would have broken many records, “he added.

Kumble took over the Rahul Dravid team in 2007. He led the team in 14 races: he won three, lost six and tied five times.

Kumble, who remains India’s highest wicket winner in both testing and ODI, called for his glorious career in 2008 when Dhoni was named captain in all three formats.
