Kolkata Durga Puja pandal’s ode to migrant workers

As the world struggled against the coronavirus pandemic, people also saw the plight of migrant workers in India, who had to walk days and days, barefoot, in the scorching sun, only to return to their places of origin with little savings. and with an uncertain future ahead. . With industries closed and jobs lost, these workers did not fear the virus, but they did fear succumbing to hunger and poverty in an unknown city, far from their loved ones.

To pay tribute to all these migrant workers, the Barisha Club Durga Puja committee in Behala, Kolkata has decided to erect and worship a statue of a migrant mother this year, instead of the goddess Durga. As soon as the organizers posted the photos of the idol, they went viral on the internet, and people welcomed the idea.

In the image you can see a migrant woman standing in the center, the place that the goddess Durga usually occupies. On either side of her, two girls can be seen, one representing Lakshmi (Lokkhi) with an owl in her arms and the other representing Saraswati with a swan in her hand. You can see a child clinging to the arms of the migrant woman, and it means Kartik.
