‘Kohli went to the gym while the team was partying; Dhoni sets the intensity, ‘says Shaun Pollock

Former South African cricketer Shaun Pollock claimed on Sunday that it was former India captain MS Dhoni who brought intensity to the Indian team, adding that Kohli has taken that intensity to the next level. Known for being a fitness fanatic, Virat Kohli’s dedication to his health and fitness has inspired many athletes around the world.

Speaking on a cricket show, Pollock recalled an incident that occurred during the India-South Africa series, which typified the Indian captains’ dedication to their fitness. He stated that people would generally go to their hotels after finishing a game early, however Kohli is often seen at the gym.

“And Kohli has kept running with it. When I go to comment for the India-South Africa series, sometimes we finish the games early and people go to their hotels. I may go to the gym and I often see Kohli in the gym after the day’s game. After they’ve won, and they might be celebrating, but he’s in the gym, “Pollock said.

“Dhoni was the one who established that intensity and Kohli took it to the next level,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chennai edged out play-off contender Bangalore by eight wickets for their fourth victory in the Indian Premier League on Sunday. Captain Virat Kohli scored a 50 on 43 balls that included just one, four and a six. Starting hitter Ruturaj Gaikwad eclipsed Kohli with an undefeated 65 on 51 balls and guided Chennai to 150-2 in 18.4 overs when he pitched Chris Morris for a six over the long-leg fence.

Bangalore has 14 points from 11 games and could still finish in the top two, while Chennai doesn’t have a chance to make the playoffs. Accepting the bleak outlook, Dhoni said three hours on the pitch can be very “painful” if the team doesn’t enjoy it.

Captain Virat Kohli collected what he learned from the victory and made sure to come back stronger. “I thought we could still have changed the pace and the odd goalie. We weren’t expressive enough. We let the hitters dictate things. You have to be prepared on a given day to get it right.”
