Kohli Granted Paternity Leave, Rohit Added to India Test Team for Australia

India has announced revised equipment for its all-format tour of Australia, which begins on November 27.

The captain of India, Virat Kohli, received paternity leave from BCCI for the birth of his first child and will return to India after the conclusion of the opening test in Adelaide, scheduled to start on December 17. It will be India’s first day / night test abroad.

Rohit Sharma, who was absent from all three teams in the initial announcement, continues to rest from the ODI and T20I, but has now been included in the test team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The physical condition of fast bowler Ishant Sharma is still being monitored with him in rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He is expected to be added to the test team once he gains sufficient fitness for the match. In the meantime, a call will be taken later on the availability of Wriddhiman Saha for the Australian trials. Saha injured both hamstrings during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Indian Premier League game on November 3.

Discovered spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who was part of the T20I starting team, has been ruled out due to a shoulder injury sustained during the IPL and has been replaced by Thangarasu Natarajan. Hyderabad’s Natarajan had a fantastic performance this IPL season, collecting 16 wickets.

Also omitted is pacemaker Kamlesh Nagarkoti, 21, who was to travel to Australia as one of the reserve players. BCCI stated in the statement that it will work with the medical team in managing its bowling workload.

Goalie hitter Sanju Samson has now also been added to the ODI team in addition to the T20Is. Samson, who scored more than 300 runs in this IPL, will be in line to make his ODI debut if he is selected in Game XI.

The tour begins with India playing three ODIs from November 27 to December 2, followed by three T20Is from December 4 to December 8 and will end with four Trials, the first of which begins on December 17.
