In a shocking incident, a man tied a dog to the trunk of a moving car with a rope and dragged it down the road for about 500 meters before abandoning it in Chalakka, near Athani in Kerala’s Ernakulam district, on Friday. in the morning. The incident was noticed by a passenger in a two-wheeler, Akhil KS, who captured the incident on video and then intervened.

Akhil made the driver of the car stop and protested the cruelty. After an argument, the car’s owner untied the dog and drove away, leaving the injured animal on the road.

Speaking to TNM, Akhil said: “The incident happened around 11:30 am. I was on my way to take a COVID-19 RTPCR test at Chakka Sree Narayana Medical College. On the way, I noticed a dog running down the road. As my vehicle approached, I noticed that the dog was tied to a car and was being dragged down the road. Then I captured the image and moved towards the vehicle. “

Akhil continued: “After riding for several meters, I wondered why the man was dragging the dog down the road. Then I turned around and blocked the car, and told the driver that the dog was going to die. But the man was rude and asked me why he should bother me even if the dog dies. Then he released the rope and released the dog. I then reported the problem to the Daya Animal Welfare Organization. At 3 PM, Daya’s vice president, Krishnan, and I started looking for the dog, and after three hours, we found him in a field. Then we admitted him to the Paravoor Veterinary Hospital, where the veterinary doctor Chandrakanth provided immediate treatment and saved the dog’s life. “

Krishnan PJ, Vice President of the Daya Animal Welfare Organization, told TNM: “After learning of the incident, we arrived at the scene and found the dog in a rice field near the area. Many wound marks were found on his body and we immediately transferred to the hospital. After treatment, the condition of the animal is better. “He added:” According to the neighbors, the dog was dragged for almost three kilometers down the road. After his health improved, the dog gave me a handshake and it was a proud moment for me. Now the dog is under the protection of our organization and more decisions will be made soon. “

After Akhil posted the video of the cruelty, the police became aware of the incident and later arrested Yusuf, 62, a taxi driver from Konnam House, Chalakka. The Chengamanad Police have registered the case against the defendants under sections 428, 429 of the IPC and 11 (1) (a) (d) (f) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
