Christmas Day 2020: Today is Christmas! A day of celebrations and great family time.
Today is Christmas. Christians around the world today celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. However, Christmas or Christmas is now celebrated by Christians and non-Christians alike and that is largely due to the mythical and joyous figure of Santa Claus, much loved by the old and young. Christmas or “mass of the day of Jesus Christ”, as the English call it, is of fairly recent origin. It was previously called Yule, which came from the winter solstice celebrations and people used to exchange ‘Christmas greetings’. It is not entirely clear how December 25 became the birthday of Jesus Christ and there are many theories about it. The religious text of Christians, the New Testament, does not give a clear indication. It is said that Sextus Julius Africanus, a historian, in 221 identified December 25 as the birthday of Christ and has since been universally accepted as Christmas day.
